Selon les vestiges d'habitations faites d'os de mammouth déterrés en Ukraine, cela n'est pas vrai. Certaines tentes étaient de vrais palais, les autres étaient celles de pauvres. Les « riches » étaient enterrés avec des perles et des bracelets sculptés dans de l'ivoire dont la création avait nécessité des milliers d'heures de travail, travail qui n'était, apparemment, pas effectué par celui qui portait ces ornements. Les autres, dont probablement les fabricants de perles, étaient enterrés dans une pénurie de biens qui en disait long sur leur pauvreté.
